A state lawmaker says the problem of litter is growing worse across the state. Rather than just throwing small items out of cars, State Representative Andy Jorgensen (D-Fort Atkinson) says there are increasing cases of large scale dumping. Jorgensen says people are dumping big bags of garbage or leaving tires or old mattresses along secluded roads.

The Fort Atkinson Democrat is introducing legislation that would increase the fines for littering. The bill would raise the penalty from the current $500 to $1,000.
