A Gillett hunter has been indicted on federal poaching charges. Prosecutors say John Kellogg sold illegal bear tags to two undercover agents, then played a key role in processing illegally killed bear for their meat and hide.

Kellogg led the agents on guided hunts in September 2009 and again last month, even after a state judge had revoked his hunting privileges.

Court documents say Kellogg has a history of wildlife violations and has developed a commercial enterprise in which he’s profited from illegally killed wildlife in Wisconsin and three other states.

Kellogg is free on bond but cannot hunt or provide guide services. He has a preliminary hearing in federal court on Wednesday.
