Governor Scott Walker is bringing back Christmas to the state Capitol building, with an announcement this week that the tree placed in the rotunda this year will be known as the “Capitol Christmas Tree.”
Even though the symbol has been known as the “Holiday Tree” since the 1980s, Governor Walker says that’s never been its name to him. Walker says it’s always been a “Christmas Tree” in his home and around the state.
Walker says that’s just what it’s called, and there’s no religious motivation behind a decision to call it a Christmas tree.

The Governor is asking art teachers, parents, and students from across the state to help decorate the tree this year by sending in homemade ornaments. The theme of the tree this year is “Honoring 163 years of Wisconsin’s veterans.”
