Wisconsin Republicans are heading up to the Wisconsin Dells for an “anticipated crowd of perhaps 1,000 people or more,” says State GOP Executive Director Mark Jefferson.
Jefferson says this weekend’s state convention will be the largest for an off-election year, in four decades.
The Republicans in Wisconsin staged the nation’s most successful sweep in the November 2010 election and Jefferson says they’re looking forward to 2012, including a US Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Herb Kohl.
“We’re looking forward to the opportunities, we’re not just playing defense,” he says.
But first the party will have to worry about six Republican state Senators defending their seats in recall elections beginning this summer.
Speakers at the convention include Governor Scott Walker, RNC Chairman Reince Preibus of Kenosha and freshman US Senator Ron Johnson of Oshkosh.
