A state environmental leader hopes a Nobel Peace Prize will result in action to halt global warming.

Steven Hiniker with 1,000 friends of Wisconsin is offering "kudos" to Al Gore for helping to draw international attention to a global problem. The former Vice President was awarded a share of the Nobel honor on Friday for his efforts to raise awareness about global warming. Gore shares the prize with the U.N. Climate Change Agency.

Hiniker says such a high profile recognition will help convince people this is not just a political issue, but rather a world wide problem that needs to be addressed.

Hiniker is a member of a task force on global warming that's developing recommendations for Governor Doyle.
