Wisconsin farmers are getting some state help modernizing.
State Agriculture Secretary Rod Nilsestuen says nearly $33 million in new initiatives will help Wisconsin farmers prepare for the future. He says the Next Generation Agriculture Plan will help stimulate the growth of dairy and farming operations across the state. The plan builds on tax credits used over the past five years, which Nilsestuen says lead to nearly a billion dollars in new investments.
Nilsestuen says the dairy industry will be a major focus of the plan. Of particular concern is helping specialty cheese markets grow. The Secretary says Wisconsin has quickly grown into a major producer of those products, accounting for nearly half of the U.S. market.
