News has been circulating about an 84-year-old woman who may break her 66-year-voting streak because she has no ID to show at the polls. In fact she’s never had a birth certificate – a document needed for a state issued ID.
When asked about this case, Governor Walker said a proposal by Senate Democrat Jim Holperin to waive the $20 certificate fee for those trying to vote would be a “viable alternative.”
Walker emphasized the new Voter ID law also allows Wisconsinites to request a free state issued identification.

The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin has a legal challenge against the new law. Executive Director Andrea Kaminski has said the elderly woman is not an isolated incident and she’s heard of similar cases around the state.
