Gov. Scott Walker
State government agencies will no longer be able to ask for large increases in their operational budgets, under one of several bills signed into law Tuesday by the governor.
The measure requires agencies to submit biennial budget requests that include plans to cut their spending by five percent over the next two years, along with maintaining spending at current levels. It was one of 58 bills Governor Scott Walker put his signature on Tuesday during private ceremonies at the Capitol, just a day after signing another 46 pieces of legislation passed in the waning days the session.
Other bills acted on Tuesday by the governor included removing a 12 hour wait on jails performing strip searches of suspects that have been taken into custody, along with changes in liability laws for health care providers who perform body cavity searches on criminal suspects. Another measure sets a minimum distance of 1,500 feet away from schools, child care centers, parks, churches, and youth center for housing sex offenders.
