The Wisconsin Development Fund is used to create jobs, attract companies to the state, and retain the ones that are already here. Governor Doyle says the Assembly budget significantly cuts that program, by lowering its level of funding to under $15 million. The Governor says such a cut will make it almost impossible to help businesses in the state.

Doyle wants the Legislature's budget conference committee to increase the amount of funding available to almost $50 million. Even at that level, the Governor says Wisconsin will still have a hard time keeping up with other states.

The Governor says Wisconsin is competing for businesses with many other states that have a lot to offer. He says the development fund is essential to making sure companies come here.

Doyle says the program helped create over 3,000 jobs in the past four years.
