The Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team suffered a big loss before their season even started.
Senior forward Ashley Luke, who transferred from Western Illinois, will miss the season after suffering an A-C-L tear in an exhibition against Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday.
The Oak Creek native originally committed to Green Bay and redshirted her first season back in 2011-12. She then transferred to Western Illinois, where she became a top player in the Summit League.
Luke captured conference player of the year honors last season as a junior, averaging 19.7 points and 11.4 rebounds a game.
Luke could still apply for a medical hardship waiver and be granted one more season, but Green Bay doesn’t have an available scholarship for next season. If Luke plays, she may have to do it as a walk-on and at her own expense.
