Green Bay city officials are chiming in on the controversial call that handed the Seahawks a win over the Packers. Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt is firing off a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell over the replacement referees.
The mayor wants an end to the labor lockout and the regular officials back onto the field. He says the league has elite athletes, coaches, and facilities but right now the refs are “substandard.”
“If they start having the integrity of that game or the professionalism of that game downgraded because of some high school refereeing, I think that’s a huge mistake,” he says. Schmidt was “just wild” when witnessing the disputed catch Monday night.
The loss will make it more difficult for the Pack to make it to the playoffs. Brad Toll of the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates that could mean the Northeast Wisconsin region could lose out on the $8.2 million that a home game in January would generate.
