A Green Bay city official wants to clean up the look of the city’s downtown, by taking steps to keep people from dropping the waist line of their pants.

Alderman David Boyce wants a universal dress code policy among downtown businesses, which would allow them to turn away customers who “sag” their pants. Boyce compares it to posting signs that say “No shoes, No shirt, No service.”

While he’s not saying if he plans to call for a city ordinance or fines to target the issue, Boyce notes that other municipalities have made similar moves to address a fashion trend he believes is offensive.

The sagging pants issue is on a city committee’s agenda for this evening. However, Boyce says the discussion is more about getting downtown businesses on the same page for a dress code.
