Playing in his last home game of the season, senior Bryquis Perine left a lasting impression on the Green Bay (13-16, 7-9 HL) fans, hitting a game-winning jumper with 11 seconds left in overtime to lead the Phoenix to an 81-80 win over visiting Valparaiso (20-9, 11-5 HL) Monday night.
Perine had just 2-points with 9:35 left to play in the second half, but he scored 11 points down the stretch, including a bucket with 38 seconds remaining to give the Phoenix a 72-70 lead. The Crusaders eventually forced overtime and Perine took over in the extra session, hitting all three of his shots from the field and scoring seven points.
Perine wound up hitting 8 of his last 11 shots and finished with 20 points. 7’1 big man Alec Brown scored a career high 22 points and added 12 rebounds to lead the Phoenix. He hit all 8 of his free throw attempts.
The Phoenix will wrap up their regular season at Youngstown State on Thursday night and at Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon.
