A published report showing an attorney with Governor Jim Doyle's campaign lobbied the State Elections Board is being called a “revelation” by his Republican opponent. A published report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel shows an attorney hired by the Doyle campaign lobbied Democrats on the State Elections Board, just before they voted to make Republican Mark Green divest $467,000 in out-of-state campaign money.
Green campaign manager Mark Graul says the report shows that Jim Doyle orchestrated and corrupted the State Elections Board to try and help his own campaign. He says the report proves this was a partisan decision against them, which they had argued from the start. Graul believes the decision is only meant to damage Green's image.
Governor Doyle's campaign spokesman, Anson Kaye, says they did nothing wrong. Kaye says Green also had a lawyer to fight complaint and there's nothing wrong with having attorneys talk with the board.
A legal challenge of the board decision is due in court today.
