A former Green Bay Congressman who lost his bid for governor in 2006 is supporting Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker this time around. Republican Mark Green announced his endorsement for Walker Monday afternoon at the Titletown Brewing Company in Green Bay.

Green and Walker both launched campaigns for Governor in the 2006 race but Walker dropped out before the September primary. Walker said during that run four years ago, he never viewed Green as “an opponent, rather as two people who wanted to be Governor to turn this state around.”

A candidate running against Walker for the Republican nomination is former Congressman Mark Neumann who, in a release, called Green an “outstanding public servant.” Nuemann said, “It’s no surprise he’s endorsed Scott, since Scott quit the 2006 Governor’s race for him. At the end of the day, average folks from across Wisconsin will decide this election.”

The winner of the September primary will square off against Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, who is the only Democrat in the race.
