A veteran state legislator will be the Republican candidate to succeed U.S. Representative Tom Petri in Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District. Senator Glenn Grothman of West Allis defeated two other Republican lawmakers, Sheboygan state Senator Joe Leibham and state Representative Duey Stroebel of Saukville, in Tuesday’s GOP primary. Grothman will face Democrat, Winnebago County Executive Mark Harris, in November’s general election.
“I am truly honored and humbled to have earned the trust and vote from so many great residents of the 6th District,” said Grothman. “With this win tonight, we have sent a clear message to Washington – it’s time for bold, conservative reforms to address the incredible challenges we face as a country.”
“Tom Petri’s retirement confirmed that there’s no room for moderates in Scott Walker’s Wisconsin or Paul Ryan’s Congress, as further evidenced by Republicans choosing Glenn Grothman as their nominee tonight,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin chairman Mike Tate.
Other House primary winners were Republican incumbent Paul Ryan and Democrat Rob Zerban in the First District, incumbent Democrat Ron Kind and Republican Tony Kurtz in the Third District, incumbent Democrat Gwen Moore and Republican Dan Sebring in the Fourth District, and Republican incumbent Sean Duffy and Democrat Kelly Westlund in the Seventh District.
