Junior Guerra continues to be one of the best stories of the 2016 Major League Baseball season.

After the Brewers dropped three straight games in St. Louis, Guerra took the mound at Nationals Park on Monday morning and tossed 7 1/3 innings of two-hit ball in a 1-0 win over the Washington Nationals on Independence Day.

Guerra walked two and struck out seven in blanking the Nationals and ending the Brewers three-game losing streak.

Guerra improved to 6-1 on the season, lowering his ERA to 2.93.

Martin Maldonado gave the Brewers their only run with a long home run to left in the fifth inning.  Jeremy Jeffress came on to record the final two outs in the eighth, then set the Nationals down in the 9th for his 22nd save in 23 tries.

The Brewers improved to 17-30 all time on the fourth of July.  It was the second time they played in Washington D.C. on that holiday, falling to the Nationals 8-5 back in 2013.

The Brewers will send Zach Davies to the mound in game two of the series tonight.
