The FBI reiterates that Wade Michael Page acted alone in killing six people at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek on Sunday.
Special Agent in Charge Teresa Carlson says the lone shooter shot himself in the head immediately after a police officer put a bullet in his gut. “The second responding officer who shot Page in the stomach thereby neutralizing the threat … subsequent to that wound, it appears that Page died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.”
Carlson says there was no video taken from inside the temple, and they have not established any specific motive for the shootings.
The FBI has already conducted over 100 interviews nationwide; issued 180 federal grand jury subpoenas; have 101 leads pending worldwide. Officials are currently reviewing the attacker’s email, telephone records, DOT traffic videos, neighborhood security videos, as well as searches of his residence, vehicle, and storage locker.
Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards says Lt. Brian Murphy, the police officer who was first on the scene and shot multiple times, is getting better. “Really good news yesterday; he was up walking. … He’s progressing amazingly and we’re very, very thankful for that.”
Edwards is confident that there was a lone shooter and, he stresses, his community and its citizens are safe. Meanwhile, he says they are setting up a fund for the officer and will post that on their website when they have the info.
Carlson says they’ve been working around the clock since Sunday, and the investigation is ongoing.
