The H1N1 flu virus continues to make its presence known in Wisconsin.

State health officials say three more people have died from the virus in the past week, bringing the statewide total up to 50 deaths since last April. The latest were in West Allis and Appleton, along with one in Winnebago County.

Seth Boffeli with the State Department of Health Services says over 1,200 people have been hospitalized with the virus since September. Cases have dropped off recently though, and he says people who have not yet been vaccinated should consider doing so.

Over one-million doses of the vaccine have been given out in Wisconsin, and it should be widely available to anyone who wants it. Boffeli says there should be enough supply out there to vaccinate roughly half the population of the state.

DHS warns that the flu season remains unpredictable, and a spike in cases is possible in the coming months.
