Police on Halloween patrol Halloween in Madison has been a sore subject in recent years, after large and violent crowds lead to riots in the city's State Street Area. The event is also usually marked with hundreds of arrests and property damage throughout the downtown of the Capitol city.

However, Madison Police Chief Noble Wray says that shouldn't be an issue this year. This is the second year Madison will be officially organizing the event and restricting access to the downtown area by selling tickets. Wray says extra private security is also being brought in to help control the crowd.

Last year's event was largely peaceful and Wray says they're hoping to repeat that again this year.

Madison's Halloween celebration is expected to attract several thousand people, starting tonight.
