Susan Happ
A Democrat is ready to challenge for state Attorney General. Republican J.B. Van Hollen is not seeking re-election after two terms, and Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel is the only GOP candidate running to succeed him.
Tuesday’s Democratic primary between Jefferson County D.A. Susan Happ, Dane County D.A. Ismael Ozanne, and Milwaukee state Representative Jon Richards resulted in a win for Happ. “We’ve become too divided,” Happ said. “People really like the message of bring the state back together again.”
Schimel said the race against Happ will offer “a clear choice between two starkly different candidates.” If elected, Happ will be the first Democrat to serve as state attorney general since Peg Lautenschlager lost her re-election bid in the 2006 Democratic primary.
Happ said her focus will be on protecting the “rights and values” of Wisconsinites. “The right vote, the right to marry who we love, the right for women to make their own health care decisions, the right to a clean and healthy environment, and protecting our consumers.”
