Milwaukee Bucks owner Herb Kohl pulled the plug on his General Manager, Larry Harris today.
Most thought the move was coming anyway, but anticipated Harris to just be let go at the end of the season. Instead, Kohl (pictured) fired Harris, hoping to add some life to a struggling basketball team, one that is just 23-44 this season and a sure bet to land in the NBA's lottery system again this summer.
Harris was in the final year of his contract, so in effect, the Bucks are deciding not to offer him a new deal.
Kohl said he'd like to have a new General Manager in place by tomorrow, which in effect means he'd like to make a move as soon as possible.
For now, Director of player personnel Dave Babcock will run the day-to-day operations of the team until a new general manager is selected. Kohl said Babcock would not be a candidate for the new GM job and that it was time to look outside the organization with a chance to get some fresh ideas in place.
Harris was originally hired by the Bucks in July of 2003, after serving as assistant general manager under Ernie Grunfeld. He's worked in the Bucks organization since 1990 and is the son of former Bucks coach Del Harris.
