Finalizing contract terms with their top draft pick, the Green Bay Packers signed the 5th overall selection in the draft, linebacker A.J. Hawk out of Ohio State. Hawk was the first linebacker drafted in the top five of the NFL Draft since Washington chose LaVar Arrington No. 2 overall in 2000. The deal was agreed to last evening, but it couldn't be signed in time for Hawk to practice with the team in their training camp opening workout on Friday night. He'll be on the practice field for the teams single 2pm workout today, along with the Packers other 11 draft choices, who have all signed contracts in time for the start of training camp. It's been a busy week for Hawk, who not only signed his first pro contract, but he married Laura Quinn on Monday as well. The Green Bay Press Gazette is reporting Hawk's contract to be worth around $36-million and includes guaranteed money of around $16-million. Hawk also has a minimum playing-time incentive that drives up the value of the deal.
