Beginning this month, parents going through a divorce in Clark County will be required to take a special parenting class.

Ron Schmidt, director of Clark County Social Services, says It's called Children in the Middle. It's designed to teach parents in the middle of a divorce about prominent communication and social issues that can occur.

With the divorce rate hovering around 50-percent, more kids are growing up in broken homes. Schmidt says that can cause some problems for children, especially when parents begin communicating adult information through their children. He says it can cause confusion among children when parents argue through them.

Clark County is on pace to have around 150 divorces involving children this year. The course will be taught about once per month.
