A new effort focuses on getting teens to talk about important, but sometimes touchy, subjects. The Adolescent Health Care Communication Program trains teenagers to go out and speak with their peers about how to approach sometimes awkward topics with their doctors.

Program Director Amy Olejniczak says they’re planning to conduct workshops with teens early next year on how talk to their doctor about reproductive health issues, sexually transmitted infections, and pregnancy; along with getting the care they need.

Olejniczak says 16 teen volunteers from the Madison area will be available to medical providers, to give a unique perspective on what teen girls need to know, along with the best ways to go about telling them.

The program is a partnership between the Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health and National Institute for Reproductive Health.
