"Bleak" is the word used to describe new vehicle sales in Dane County during the first half of the year. Sales of new vehicles in Dane County during the first half of this year were down 7.6 percent from the same period last year. Scott Quimby, President of Reg-Trak, Inc. says it's resulting in some changes. "I think that a lot of the dealers are being forced to refocus their business models into more of service oriented dealership as opposed to sales," says Quimby. "The longer people hold on to vehicles, cars get out warrenty, and they need more service work than they would if they were turning their vehicles in, every two to three years." Quimby says truck and SUV sales especially took a hit due to high gas prices.
