The Wisconsin Historical Society wants you to take advantage of twice as many authentic historic places. In June, general admission tickets purchased on a weekday to one of nine historic sites and museums will include a free pass for any other site, good for the rest of the year. “So buy one, get in later on for free.”

Cheryl Sullivan, Deputy Administrator of the Division of Museums and Historic Sites with the state Historical Society, says with similar promotions in the past, they’ve seen an increase in attendance. “Well last year, and it was in part because of the economy, last year we allowed all our visitors to get in free on Mondays during the month of June. Because that promotion was just so successful, we just kind of put our heads together and came up with this idea.”

Sullivan says it’s another way to increase awareness about the historic sites, and to make them more affordable and more accessible to people. “Old Word Wisconsin in Eagle, which is in Waukesha County; Circus World Museum, located in Baraboo; Wisconsin Historical Museum, located on the Capitol Square in Madison; and H.H. Bennett Photography Studio is in Wisconsin Dells right on Main Street.”

That’s just to name a few. Other sites include Villa Louis in Prairie du Chien, the Wade House in Greenbush, Pendarvis in Mineral Point, Stonefield Village at Cassville, and the Madeline Island Museum. The First Capitol in Belmont and the Reed School in Neillsville are always free.

With admission fees ranging from 3.50 to 16 bucks, a family of four can save up to $64.00.
