Wisconsin officially has a new Assembly Speaker, sworn in by Supreme Court Justice David Prosser. "Congratulations Mr. Speaker. … Thank you. Thank you very much"
State Representative Mike Huebsch (R-West Salem) was first elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1994 and has recently served as Majority Leader, before being voted to his newest position. "It is a high honor and a humbling experience to be elected as your speaker today."
The Republican from West Salem becomes Wisconsin's 72nd Assembly Speaker, a job formerly held by John Gard, who left the legislature to run for Congress in the 8th district. Citing welfare reform, school choice and other unique ideas, Huebsch says Wisconsin has been a leader in the past and he expects to work with both political parties in this new session on issues that really matter to Wisconsin families. "Now, let's get to work … together."
