A Janesville house is under scrutiny by police, health inspectors and the humane society after police found more than 300 animals inside.

City Neighborhood Services director Holly Romenesko says it was a regular zoo. Mice, rabbits, hamsters, ferrets, a couple of dogs and even two snakes. Romenesko says it was fairly clean and the animals were all caged.

Romenesko says the tenant was breeding and selling the animals from the house at which violates city ordinance. They were most concerned about the snakes which were constrictors.

Police are re-inspecting the house early this week to make sure the snakes have been removed. The property owner gave the tenant until the end of the month to remove all the animals except the dogs or be evicted.
