Results from the Department of Natural Resources show hunters killed about two percent more deer over last year. DNR big game warden Keith Warnke says it was a positive year overall, with a large number of hunters out and relatively good weather for the duration of the season. Over 641,000 hunting licenses were sold this year

Overall, 343,644 deer were registered with the DNR. Of those, 218,584 were antlerless deer and 125,060 were bucks.

Warnke says it will be awhile before they know how effective the season was in controlling the Wisconsin deer herd. The herd was estimated as close to 1.8 million before the start of the gun deer season.

The nine-day gun deer hunting season ended on Sunday.
