Hunters and outdoorsmen should be getting their applications for permits in soon for a wide number of hunts.

Fall turkey, grey wolf, furbearer trapping and sturgeon spearing license applications are all coming due on August 1st.

The number of turkey permits are holding steady from last year’s hunt at 96,700. Any permits not distributed through the application process will go on sale first come first served starting August 23.

Wolf licenses are down this year owing to the long winter and a steady harvest last season. Permits will be issued on a 10 to 1 ratio from the available quota of 156.

Applications for furbearer trapping including bobcats, fishers and otters close August 1st, and will be awarded in late August and early September. No major changes in numbers are expected over last year.

Sturgeon spearers need to have their applications in by the first as well to get into the spearing lottery or whether they’ve received a preference point for the next year. Lottery winners will be notified by October 1st.

You can learn more about all of these applications online at http://dnr.wi.gov.
