Expect plenty of company on the roads and in the airports, if you’re heading out for the Thanksgiving holiday later this week.
According to a survey by auto club AAA, just under 47 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home during the holiday period, which runs Wednesday through Sunday. In Wisconsin, about 977,000 people will be traveling, up about 1.4 percent over last year.
Nearly 90 percent of those travelers will be driving to their destination, and they’ll be helped by gas prices that continue to fall. AAA-Wisconsin spokesman Nick Jarmusz says, thanks to the end of the more volatile refinery maintenance season, prices have been on a downward trajectory. He says that could “continue us on a downward trajectory throughout the end of the year.”
Prices in some parts of the state have already dropped to around the $2.00 mark for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel.
