Some families will not be celebrating this weekend, after a two-vehicle crash takes one life and seriously injures another about 20 miles north of Madison.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, at 9:00 this morning (December 24) a semi driver had stopped on the right shoulder of I-90 westbound near Arlington to assist with a previous crash. Within minutes the driver of a north bound pick up lost control and struck the rear of the semi. That driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Columbia County Coroner’s office, and the only passenger in the vehicle was transported to UW Hospital with serious injuries.

The semi driver was uninjured. The crash is currently under investigation. Speed is considered a contributing factor.
