A man was arrested after getting into a Manitowoc school without permission early Thursday morning. Manitowoc Police Captain Larry Zimmney said 58-year-old Steven Grimm had no weapons but was combative, tussling with Lincoln High School custodians and punching one of them in face.

“He entered the school not with intent of doing anybody any hard,” Zimmney said, adding that Grimm admitted to using marijuana and alcohol the previous evening. “He was apparently having some delusions where he was a knight, and he wanted to go up in the tower of Lincoln High School.”

A student noticed Grimm in the building at around 6:45 and let office staff know. “Our office staff contacted the custodians, and that’s when we found Mr. Grimm,” said Manitowoc Schools Superintendent Mark Holzman, who credited the student who “analyzed there was something not right” when she saw Grimm in the building.

Grimm is facing charges of substantial battery, burglary, damage to property from breaking a window at the school and trespassing. The high school, which has an enrollment of around 1200 students, went into lock down mode so police could secure the building. Students and staff already inside the building at the time waited in the auditorium and cafeteria until about 8:05 a.m.
