Janesville police say a Brodhead man killed in a fiery crash near Orfordville early Monday morning was pulled over for excessive speeds in downtown Janesville, and failed a breathalyzer test, less than three hours before his fatal accident. Lieutenant Keith Lawver says since 29-year-old Jason Stacy passed field sobriety tests, the officer did not feel he had probable cause to make an arrest for operating while intoxicated. Stacy was cited for operating left of center and unreasonable and imprudent speed. Police estimate Stacy was driving at close to 100 miles an hour in downtown Janesville. Lawver says the officer had Stacy call a friend to pick him up. Less than three hours later, Stacy was killed in the crash. Rock County sheriffs deputies say it appears Stacy lost control of his car, which struck a tree, rolled over and burst into flames. Stacy was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car.
