If reelected, Attorney General JB Van Hollen says he’ll continue to do exactly what’s working as the state’s top cop.
“Well I’m one of those people who doesn’t believe you have to promise to do things when you run for reelection. If you’re doing things well, and you’re doing important things, there’s nothing better than to continue to do those.”
Having said that, Van Hollen admits that avoiding another backlog of DNA evidence in the Wisconsin Crime Labs remains important. Also he says, the state is only at the tip of the iceberg with regard to protecting children.
“We have tens of thousands of pedophiles in this state at any given time; we’re taking hundreds off the streets, but we need to continue to do so much more in that front and I need to continue to raise the profile on this issue…”
Van Hollen says he’s not above using good ideas from people across the political aisle, to make the community safer, and run the government more efficiently.
“If people have ideas that we can utilize and take and run with them, I’m all ears.”
Van Hollen notes, he’s making progress at a time when the state is fiscally challenged. Former DNR Secretary Scott Hassett will face Van Hollen in the General Election.
