With his future up in the air, Geoff Jenkins homered off Tyler Johnson leading off the 9th inning Wednesday night to send the Brewers to a 1-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. It backed the 4-hit pitching of rookie Carlos Vllanueva and two relievers. The 9th year pro lost his starting job in early August. Despite having 1 more guaranteed year left on his contract (he's owed $7 million), Jenkins may not be a part of the team in 2007. He's hitting .477 with six homers and 10 rbi's in September. The game winner is Jenkins 16th home run this season but only the 2nd against left handers. Villanueva was making his 4th big league start. He allowed three hits in seven innings, striking out 5 and walking only 1. Chris Spurling pitched a 1-hit eighth, and Francisco Cordero (3-0) threw a perfect ninth, lowering his ERA to 0.42 in 22 appearances since the Brewers acquired him in a trade with Texas. The Brewers open a 4-game series against San Francisco at Miller Park tonight.
