Things got a bit emotional Tuesday in the Joint Finance Committee. The budget writing panel ended up eliminating proposals from Governor Doyle, including creation of a rating system for child care providers and an extension of W-2 benefits to women with at-risk pregnancies. In the process they eliminated a deficit of more than 32 million dollars in state aid programs, but not before Milwaukee Democrat, Senator Lena Taylor, voiced concern. "These are people who don't have it (resources), and come to us in desperate need," said Taylor. Democratic Senator Bob Jauch said services would not actually be cut: "in fact, the purpose of this package is to protect family services and childcare." Taylor ended up voting for the the resolution, as it passed on a 14-2 vote.
