Novice candidate Ron Johnson breezed to a victory Tuesday in the the Republican primary election for U.S. Senate. The Oshkosh businessman will face incumbent Democrat, Senator Russ Feingold, in November’s general election.
Johnson, who spent heavily on television ads, easily defeated small business owner Dave Westlake of Watertown and the unknown Stephen Finn of Milwaukee. Johnson, whose signature issue is repealing health care reform, is expected to give Feingold a tough challenge. Feingold, who had no primary opponent, has accepted invitations to six separate debates and challenged Johnson to do the same, although it’s unclear whether that will happen.
