A Democratic leader in the Wisconsin legislature wants to change jobs. State Representative Andy Jorgensen of Milton won’t be running for reelection in the 43rd Assembly District this fall, but rather plans to run for Rock County Register of Deeds.
Jorgenson was first elected to the legislature in 2007, representing the 37th Assembly District. The district was divided as a result of redistricting, and Jorgensen defeated incumbent Evan Wynn in 2012 to represent the 43rd Assembly District. Most recently he has served as Minority Caucus chairman.
Jorgensen said the decision wasn’t easy. It was talked about with his family for a long time and is what’s best for them. With a daughter in middle school, a son in high school, and another son in college, he’d like to spend more time closer to home. He said he also wants to continue serving his community.
Jorgensen said one thing he’s learned during his five-terms in Madison, is how to run a government office. Jorgensen won’t be on the ballot alone. Deputy Register of Deeds Sandy Disrud of the Town of Beloit has also announced plans to run for the post.
Hours after Jorgensen announced he’s not seeking reelection to the Assembly, another Milton resident says he’s looking to fill the vacated seat. Don Vruwink is a retired teacher who served on the Milton City Council from 2010 to 2015, the last year as council president.
