A sex offender from Milwaukee County will not be placed in the Fond du Lac County Town of Eldorado. Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney was in a Milwaukee County courtroom Wednesday when a judge accepted a Department of Health Services request to withdraw the placement of Clinton Rhymes.
Toney said the decision was “obviously a great win for the Eldorado community, and I think it just goes to show that when a community bands together and makes its voice heard, it does make a difference.”
Many concerned residents wrote letters to the judge, an effort spurred on by Fond du Lac County Sheriff Mick Fink. “The judge referenced them during the hearing and he held up a stack of papers that from where I was sitting looked to be a couple of inches thick,” Toney said. “I think a lot of residents took up the sheriff’s recommendation to write letters to the court, and the judge referenced writing some of the letters.”
Toney himself delivered to the court a copy of an advisory resolution passed by the Fond du Lac County Board opposing the placement of Rhymes in the county. The 51-year-old Rhymes was convicted in 1988 of a violent sexual assault and attempted murder and was sentenced to 26 years in prison. A February 24th hearing will determine where in Milwaukee County Rhymes will be placed.
