A judge has modified the bond for a Weston couple charged in the prayer death of their diabetic daughter. Marathon County Judge Vincent Howard ordered Dale and Leilani Neumann's three children get a health check up every other week. Howard also appointed a guardian for each child to help look after their care and says the Neumanns should get help if an emergency arises.
Marathon Comty District attorney Jill Falstad said the new conditions replace a previous safety plan for the 13, 15 and 17 year-old teenagers. “The purpose was to monitor cronic health concerns that were not being addrressed, and that need to be looked at further,” she said.
The pair were charged after the death of their 11-year-old daughter Madeline, who was suffering from undiagnosed diabetes, on Easter Sunday. Prosecutors say the parents chose to pray over their daughter, rather than seek medical attention. Court records indicate the girl likely showed symptoms of the illness for several weeks before her death.
