The investigation continues into a range of potential crimes at the state’s Lincoln Hills School.
It’s a list of serious allegations, including second-degree sexual assault, physical child abuse, child neglect, abuse of prisoners, intimidation of victims and witnesses and tampering with public records.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that, in opening the John Doe probe in October, a Lincoln County judge found there was “reason to believe” the crimes had been committed, basing his decision on a sealed affidavit by a state Department of Justice investigator.
Judge Robert Russell’s unsealed order, reviewed by the Journal Sentinel, said investigators are also looking to see if laws governing how state institutions are to be run were violated.
