State Representative Dean Kaufert says he’ll challenge Neenah Mayor George Schereck in the April election. Kaufert was elected to the Assembly in 1991, after serving on the Neenah city council for five years.

Scherck is seeking a fourth, four-year term. He changed his mind last year about running for reelection. Kaufert says he considers Scherck a personal friend, so it was a difficult decision to get in the race. He says it will be a unique campaign, because there are only positive things to talk about, and voters will get to pick between two quality candidates.

“There’s not a lot of negative things for me to go after, only positive, and how we can improve on what’s being done here in the city,” said Kaufert.
