Losing weight probably tops most New Year's resolution lists and probably tops the list of broken ones too.

It's not just about counting calories. Dean Health Dietician Kim Petershack says it's important to eat the right foods but also have a regular exercise program.

Petershack says choose the foods and the type of exercise you'll be comfortable with for the rest of your life otherwise that resolution is likely to be broken. And once you start losing weight don't give up on the exercise regime. That's when she sees the pounds start creeping back.

Petershack says since losing weight is about keeping it off for the long term, forget about all those diet supplements you see advertised. Those, she says, are only temporary fixes and won't help in the years to come.
