Tornado damage in Kenosha County is currently put at more than $18 million , but that figure will likely grow.

Kenosha County Emergency Management director Ben Schliesman says the estimate is based on property tax assessments, building inspections, and best estimates. Over two dozen homes and buildings were destroyed by the tornado  on Monday, close to three dozen had major damage, and nearly four dozen just had minor damage. It's also estimated Kenosha County and its municipalities have about $900,000 in property damage and costs incurred in the disaster response and recovery.

Schliesman adds that officials are trying to get a handle on how many homes were uninsured or under insured. That's needed for a federal disaster declaration or federal assistance.
