A 67-year-old woman has died as a result of injuries sustained in a house fire in Kenosha Wednsday morning. The fire was reported just after 9:00 a.m. by people working in a business across the street from the home at 6316 28th Avenue, who reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the windows of the two-story building. Kenosha Fire Chief John Thomsen said firefighters had to rescue the woman from the home, and she suffered serious burns and smoke inhalation.

Thomsen said at first, it was believed there were more than a half-dozen people, including children, in the home. However, he said everyone was soon accounted for, and there were only three people at home at the time. Thomsen said the construction of the older home made fighting the fire all the more difficult.

One other resident suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene. A third person was not injured. Thick smoke enveloped the neighborhood and flames could be seen in the home for several hours after the initial call. Fire crews remained on the scene through early in the afternoon.
