La Crosse Democrat Ron Kind has survived a close race to win re-election to an eighth term in Congress. Kind narrowly defeated Republican state Senator Dan Kapanke to hold his seat representing western Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District. The race tightened after outside groups attacked Kind for his positions on health care and spending, and a pair of Eau Claire doctors accused him of demanding donations to meet with them about legislation in 2007. Kind denied those allegations while capitalizing on Kapanke’s misuse of money given to a nonprofit foundation for his minor league La Crosse Loggers baseball team.
