With John McCain campaigning in the state, Wisconsin Democrats go to bat for their candidate. Governor Jim Doyle addressed a rally of Barack Obama supporters in Waukesha Thursday, after a rally there by McCain and running mate Sarah Palin. Today was the turn of Sen. Herb Kohl, who met with Obama supporters in La Crosse, also the scene of a McCain event .

Kohl says recent campaign appearances have reassured Americans that Senator Barack Obama has the temperament to be the nation's next president. "By contrast, Senator McCain appears to be more excitable, more prone to changes in direction from day to day," claims Kohl. "And perhaps most importantly, willing to go negative."

Senator McCain has used his campaign stops in front of angry partisan crowds in Wisconsin to question Obama's past associations. "You know, I don't know as how they're relative to the future," says Kohl of McCain's efforts to highlight Obama's associations with convicted felon Tony Rezko, former Weather Underground member Bill Ayers and Reverend Jeremiah Wright. "Does anybody doubt that when Senator Obama wins, he's only going to have people of the highest charector surrounding him? I have no doubt." Kohl calls McCain's efforts "easily dismissible."
