The people of Libya should have a voice in their government, but U.S. Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI) says our own leaders need to be careful about American involvement.
Kohl says the rebellion underway in Libya is much like the unrest going on in many other Middle Eastern countries. He says those people are upset with dictator-like governments and want change, which Americans do largely support.
However, Kohl says the U.S. must be careful when taking action and should avoid overstretching the armed forces as it lends support.
The U.S. military has joined other nations in military strikes in recent days, which have targeted the air defenses and other resources Libyan dictator Moammar Qadhafi has been using to target rebels.
Kohl says we have to be careful and approach the situation with “a scalpel and not a meat axe.”
